Dear Parent / Guardian;
Each Cub/Beaver will need to have the following personal gear for the Nenagh Scouts Summer Camp:

Please do not feel that you have to buy all new gear for your child … You all have a cousin, friend or neighbour from whom you can borrow bits and pieces, once they are in correct working order.

** PLEASE NOTE **
All camping Beavers need to bring their fully packed rucksacks and bedding rolls (sleeping bag & mat) to the Beaver meeting on June 17th to be checked by the Leaders. Thank you.

*** EVERYTHING SHOULD BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH THE CHILD’S NAME ***

ALL MEDICINES, clearly marked with child’s name, should be handed to the Cub / Beaver Leader and fully explained (when / how to use etc.)

– 1 rucksack / large backpack (not suit case please) which can be carried on the back, large enough to carry ALL gear (children should not have multiple bags)
– 1 smaller backpack for snack / water bottle / sun cream / sun hat / etc.
– 1 warm sleeping bag (sew a fleece blanket inside if it’s not warm enough)
– 1 waterproof sleeping mat (not yoga mat or blow up mattress)
– Waterproof jacket and waterproof ‘legs’ (be prepared … it could rain all weekend!)
– Runners
– Waterproof footwear (a must!)
– INSECT REPELLENT Sun Cream
– Torch and new batteries (and spare batteries)
– Notebook and pencil / pen
– Small bag carrying non-breakable plate, bowl, cup, knife, fork, spoon
– Cubs/Beavers will travel in full uniform with neckerchief (if ‘invested’)
– Old clothes will then be worn for all other activities: Full change of clothes is needed for each day, i.e. Old clothes – No jeans please. Preferably tracksuits, T-shirts, shorts, warm fleeces, lots of extra socks, PJ’s, etc.
– Hat, gloves
– Wash bag with all personal items (tooth brush, tooth paste, soap, small towel)

Cake Sale

2016-05-04On Friday 13th May, Nenagh Scouts are holding the Beaver Bakeoff, a national Scouting Ireland event.  Nenagh Beavers have taken on the challenge to bake at home and bring the goodies into Nenagh College (Canteen) for a fundraising cakesale.  All proceeds to go towards the Nenagh Scouts Summer camp in June.   The cubs are getting involved as well, bringing in their own baked goods, as well as showing off their own crafting skills in the form of loom bands and the much coveted and incredible Survival Bracelets.   Scouts to be at Nenagh College Canteen for the usual 6pm start, and we hope to see plenty of friends and family of Nenagh Scouts from 6.30 onwards to support this event

Website Updates

The website has undergone some updates.  It now includes a menu at the top where the Nenagh Scout Code of Conduct can be found, and also a page to help with where to put those badges.  On the right hand side of the page is also details of upcoming Scout events for all groups.  Our facebook page is also very popular and is updated regularly.

St Patrick’s Day Parade 2016

We are meeting at the barracks up summer hill at 1pm
For safety reasons no child can be collected until the end of the walk when we reach the railway carpark.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our children safe.

If parents can send confirmation of attendance to David or Clint so we get an idea of numbers please.

Thanks guys.

Annual County Beaver Quiz in Thurles

On Friday 11th March Nenagh Beaver Scouts have been invited to their first ever North Tipperary County Event, which is an annual Beaver Quiz being hosted this year by Thurles Beavers.  The quiz will be in Thurles Scouts Den at 7.30 pm and will finish at 9 pm.

This event will replace our usual Friday evening.  All beaver attending, we ask you to be at Nenagh College as usual for 6 pm, and we have arranged for a bus leaving the college at 6.30 pm.  We would estimate that we will be back at Nenagh College for 10pm for parents to collect.

We will require the usual subs of €3, but we also ask for an additional €2 in order to help pay for some of the bus fee.   So please could all kids bring €5 altogether for the event.

Full uniform required, and it would probably be a good idea to bring a drink and small snack for the journey.

Thanks,

Clint.

Beaver Slumber Party on Friday 5th February 2016

Beavers will be sleeping over in the Nenagh College Hall for Nenagh Scouts first overnight event.  All beavers participating will be coming to scouts as usual at 6pm Friday 5th February, and then parents to collect them between 8.30 and 9 am on Saturday 6th February.

We are hoping to get some dry weather, and if so we plan to have lots of torchlit fun in the dark and hopefully a small campfire.   PLEASE ENSURE KIDS HAVE WARM CLOTHING.   What’s needed for Friday is:

  • Sleeping bag
  • Ground mat or inflatable mattress
  • Warm pyjamas
  • Towel
  • Toiletries (Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, soap, facecloth, etc)
  • A change of clothes in case we have any falls outside as its likely to be muddy
  • Wellies/boots for wearing outside in grass
  • Shoes for indoors
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Torch
  • Sleeping aid (e.g. teddy, blanket)

Please involve the kids when packing their bags, as knowing how to pack their bag is a part of the camping stage 1 badge.

If anyone has pop-up tents they wouldn’t mind us using, they would also be helpful, as we will be having a pretend campsite in the hall.

January Investiture and Badge Ceremony

This Friday, 29th January 2016, Nenagh Scouts will be welcoming new beavers, cubs and adult scouters into the scouts community at our investiture night. Additionally, we will also be doing our first ever Badge ceremony, where the beavers and cubs will be receiving badges they have earned over the past few months.

The event will be happening in Nenagh College as usual, but it will be in the canteen, meaning that you will need to come in through the main college entrance.

Kids to be there at 6pm as usual with the normal €3 subs to cover the hall rental. Parents are then invited to come in at 6.30pm. At the end of the ceremony, there will be drinks and biscuits available and a chance to meet the scout leaders. We would appreciate any parents who would like to volunteer or help by bringing in any small offerings such as biscuits, buns, etc.

Tesco Blue Tokens

Nenagh Scouts now have a Blue Token collection going in Nenagh Tesco.  We would very much appreciate everybody’s support with this as it will be of huge importance for keeping us on our feet and supporting future activities for our kids.   Thanks.

3…2…1… Nenagh scouts are go!

After a fine wet Irish summer, Nenagh Scouts are looking forward to welcoming everyone back on Friday 25th September.

We have a new premises with great facilities, at Nenagh College, Dromin Road (Formerly the Vocational College).

Also we have a new time, both Beavers and Cub Scouts will be starting at 6pm and finishing at 7.30pm.

During the Summer, we have been busy, and many of the Nenagh Scout Leaders (known as Scouters) have been undergoing training in skills such as ropework, pioneering, event planning etc, and we are very much looking forward to sharing these skills with the kids. We also have new leaders training and getting ready to join in the fun and help out.

Text messages will be sent to all parents within the coming days with details of costs. New members will also be sent a formal letter of invite from the Club.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!
